“Through the Lens” is a collaborative effort of 8 women photographers having different points of view, and coming from different backgrounds, and all delivering work with impact.
“The show has 8 talented women photographers offering their view of what is seen when working with the camera,” said Sylvia ford, photographer, featured artist, and curator of the show. “No two are alike. The show will deliver diversity.”
The artists featured in “Through the Lens” are Amy Lockard, Lucinda Huff, Georgette Heron-Willoughby, Karen Hofmann, Linda Sorensen, Marcia Fowler, Wendy Wernet, and Sylvia Ford.
Hailing from all over Michigan, and Ohio, work from these women photographers has been recognized by and exhibited in Nature Photographer Magazine, Pure Michigan, The Rivers Edge Gallery in Wyandotte, The Scarab Club in Detroit, the Padzieski Art Gallery in Dearborn, MICA, and Women in Photography International,, as well as newspapers and magazines throughout Michigan.
The photographs range in styles from nature and urban landscape photography, to macro photography, infrared photography, black and white and color.
“Often not considered part of the arts, we plan to show our viewers that photography has its own language and its rightful place in the world of art. “ said Ford.
On October 22 , several photographers featured in the show will also be holding an afternoon of photography lectures on subjects including running a photography business, infrared photography, matting and framing photographs, and camera basics. The lectures are free and open to the public, and offer an opportunity to ask questions of the photographers.
